LQC Hosts Workshop “Kelvin: Solid-State Qubits at Elevated Temperatures”
On April 26, 2023, The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) Qubit Collaboratory (LQC) hosted an invitation-only workshop entitled, Kelvin: Solid-State Qubits at Elevated Temperatures. Participants, speakers, and panelists included representatives from academia, industry, and government to discuss the science and technology of operating superconducting and semiconducting qubits at temperatures hotter than the currently used 0.01 K of dilution refrigerators. The four invited speakers highlighted benefits, challenges, and opportunities for qubit operation at modest elevated temperatures between 0.3 K – 1 K. Discussions around the following questions helped build the basis of anticipated LQC projects:
-
-
- Are there other concepts for operating solid-state qubits (g. initialization, read-out, materials) at elevated temperatures?
- Are there other noise related issues that should be considered with operating solid-state qubits at elevated temperatures?
- What are you concerned/worried about in this work?
- Within this technology, what would you like to see being addressed in the next 5 years?
- How high in temperature do you think this would work?
