The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) Qubit Collaboratory (LQC) hosted its second annual Summer of Quantum Short Course July 25 – August 5, 2022, which is free of cost to participants. The online, synchronous course targeted rising undergraduate seniors thru 2^nd year graduate students interested in quantum devices and quantum information science. With much growth from its inaugural year, the program received over 360 global applicants. The short course’s 156 participants received a two-week introduction to quantum computing with lectures and hands-on projects from leading Physicists, virtual lab tours, and enriching networking opportunities.

• • • “I love the hands-on aspect of the python section. I feel like I was able to get tangible experience. I also loved the first lecture because the information was easily digestible”
    • “I especially enjoyed the part where we discussed in-depth layered architecture of a quantum computer and various problems faced. I am definitely going to carry that forward with me.”
    • “The best aspect of today’s workshop was the introductions…because of the amazing, diverse audients we are.”
    • “LOVED the break-out rooms and the opportunity to ask one-on-one questions with experts in various fields (of our interest)”

Many participants are continuing to engage with their newfound quantum enthusiast community via ongoing Slack and WhatsApp conversations. The LQC looks forward to hosting another course next year.
